The idea is to have all roommates within a co-living environment complete these diary entries. The diary study will also be extended to multiple living spaces to collect entries from a variety of living environments and roommate dynamics to identify instances of miscommunication and challenges.

Sample size:

10-15 participants

Demographics:

Age- age 18-30

Living situation- People who are currently living with roommates or who have lived with roommates in the past. Different types of co-living situations such as dorm living, apartment, house

Gender- Any gender

Cultural background- Diverse backgrounds to account for different communication styles and habits

Objective:

• See if being together sparks ideas about what people might share as pain points when it comes to roommates
• Moderate group with a discussion questions touching on possible roommate challenges
• Present scenarios to the group to act out how they might go about discussing a certain roommate centered challenge
• Observe differences in people’s communication styles when it comes to tackling a problem
• Identify key features that might be useful when it comes to strengthening roommate communication
• Understand needs, preferences and pain points when living in a shared environment
